Salvadoran Vision Project

Welcome to the Salvadorian Vision Project. Over the next several weeks, we'll be collecting hundreds of prescription glasses for some very deserving people in El Salvador and I hope you’ll join us. To help out all you have to do is send us your old pair of prescription glasses before the end of February, and we’ll see that someone in need gets them.

In a few weeks I’ll be teaming up in El Salvador with healthcare volunteers from a group called the AsociaciĆ³n SalvadoreƱa Pro-Salud Rural. Over the course of the short expedition, we hope to provide close to 2,500 eye exams and 250 cataract and plastic surgeries for the rural poor in the interior of the country.

Many of the patients are subsistence farmers living with limited vision and in some cases debilitating blindness. Your glasses can help bring these individuals confidence, new opportunity and a chance to experience life in a more fulfilling way. We feel motivated by this opportunity, and hope you’ll enjoy the difference your small act will make in the lives of good people.

Two ways to help:

1) Drop your old glasses in the mail to:

Bryan Monson
102 Dustin Street

Boston, MA 02135

2) Or, if you live in one of the cities below, just bring your frames to one of our local drop-off locations (Thank you Ashley, Bryan, Paige, Camille, Amy, Clair, Angela, Peter, Wendy, Cardon and Dad).

Oh, and after you donate, check back in a few weeks. I’ll post a photo of the happy recipients of your glasses here on our website.

You’ll also be entered into a raffle for an Insight Humanitarian t-shirt (Ya, I know. It’s a t-shirt. But hey, it’ll be perfect for Saturday morning football or for the next Elder’s quorum moving activity :) ). Thanks for helping out!

  1. Thanks to everyone for making this project such a success. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your response in helping out.

I've gotten emails of some of you organizing glasses collections at medical schools, churches, daycares, accounting firms (frames of the Dwight Schrute variety I'm guessing), and yes, even one karate studio (I have no idea what frames to expect from here). You guys are so creative. Needless to say, the response has been huge, and will make a big difference in the lives of others; which of course in the end, is what this is all about. Hope you've had as much fun being involved as we have.

The surgical camp begins in El Salvador in one week. Please mail your frames BY THIS MONDAY, JAN 23rd so we can get your glasses processed, and packed for the expedition. Every pair counts.

Otherwise if you miss the deadline, you can still send them up until the end February. We are shipping the rest to El Salvador March 1st. They will all be put to good use.

    Thanks again for getting involved.

    Bryan
